If you were asked to say what you think the greatest city in the world is, a couple options would likely pop into your mind, but almost assuredly, one of these choices would be New York City.
Whether it is Manhattan, the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, or Staten Island, the Big Apple has the hustle and bustle of one of the biggest cities in the world, naturally. But in fact, New York is anything but natural (unless you are a stickler who happens to count Central Park).
And while this is an amazing thing (truly, New York City is a gorgeous city during any time of the year, a feat that is certainly rare for metropolitan areas of its size and stature), it might not always be the best thing for your physical and mental health.
This is largely because New York completely exudes a sense of urban areas. It is practically synonymous with bumper-to-bumper traffic, tall skyscrapers, and everything else that makes a city a city here in the United States.
And even if you are someone who adores and treasures everything that New York is and represents, you would still do well to get away from time to time.
After spending a long and trying work week in the heart of the city, you might not always think to leave it on the weekend.
In fact, you will probably think that it is just easier to stay within the city’s boundaries for the entirety of the weekend, but you would absolutely be doing yourself a disservice by keeping yourself cooped up.
Even if only for a weekend, you will do well to spend some time in the great outdoors or at some kind of nature retreat for the weekend. Just the ability to get yourself connected to the natural world all over again is a hugely important thing to do for your wellbeing.
